Polaroid Real+
Serena Zhang (2023)Explore the authenticity of photography in the context of the virtual world through POLAROID REAL — an exhibition of photographs by Serena Zhang, who invites you to question: How do you decide if a scene is real, and what does that realness mean to you?
This project is about diving deep, experimenting, and shaking things up a bit at the edges of digital art and photography. It takes the old-school charm of Polaroids, something you can touch and feel, and mixing it up with the futuristic world of 3D avatars and virtual spaces.
This project strives to accomplish two things. One, it poses a big question: in today’s world full of digital photos and filters, what does it truly mean to “”capture”” a moment or a face? And two, by taking these very real Polaroids of very virtual places, it is challenging our own ideas of what’s “”real”” and what’s just an image.
This project will brings up all sorts of reactions. Some might struggle with seeing these classic Polaroids showcasing digital worlds. It makes you think. What’s real and what’s just pixels on a screen?
At the heart of it, we’re diving into a new space where photography meets digital art. It’s a fresh take, a different lens to view our digital world through.
