1.4 Funders

We are pleased to acknowledge the institutions and organizations which have supported the activities of the STUDIO. Since 1989, grants from these public agencies, foundations and corporations, as well as other units within Carnegie Mellon University, have provided more than six million dollars to the STUDIO’s research and outreach programs, enabling over 100 investigations by interdisciplinary artists.
The STUDIO for Creative Inquiry is named for our benefactors, Sarah Ratchye and Ed Frank. Their generosity makes possible the Frank-Ratchye Fund for Art @ the Frontier — an endowment to encourage the creation of innovative artworks by the faculty, students and staff of Carnegie Mellon University. Other individuals who have contributed to the STUDIO will be listed here in the future.
We are particularly indebted to annual support from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and to recurring support from the National Endowment for the Arts, for grants enabling artists’ residencies and other activities at the STUDIO.
