Paris Mosaïque

Cheryl Zhang (2024)

Paris Mosaïque is a multimedia, interactive virtual experience that allows the user to explore the Asian diasporic communities of Paris through six different themes: History, Economy, Sociology, Identity, Community, and Racism/Discrimination. Under each theme, there are a variety of maps, photos, videos, audio clips, and links for the user to explore. Certain themes, such as History, Economy, Sociology, and Community are designed as virtual walking tour experiences, whereas Identity and Racism/Discrimination are designed more as podcast-like experiences where the user can hear from different people interviewed.

Through this website, users can learn about postcolonial Asian immigration in Paris and its implications for the communities today through the six lenses mentioned. The multimedia aspect as well as the combination of writing in history, sociology, and a variety of other disciplines offers users who may not be in Paris the opportunity to explore this neighborhood of Paris and, in the process, learn about the communities and the people who are connected to it.

This project was created as one piece of the demographic mosaic of Paris and is intended to serve as a model that can be used to explore other diasporic communities in the future.

This Project was made possible with support from the Frank-Ratchye Further Fund Grant #2024-008.
