“For over 70 years the Richard King Mellon Foundation has invested in the competitive future and quality of life in southwestern Pennsylvania, and in the protection, preservation, and restoration of America’s environmental heritage.

With assets over $2.4 billion at December 31, 2018, the Richard King Mellon Foundation has built on the vision of its founders. The Foundation’s current giving priorities primarily serve southwestern Pennsylvania with a program focus on Regional Economic Development and Conservation, along with Education and Human Services and Nonprofit Capacity Building. The Foundation gives first consideration to requests that clearly align with these interests and demonstrates the greatest likelihood of achieving measurable results.

The Richard King Mellon Foundation approved 180 grants and program-related investments in 2018 totaling $127,591,006. In addition, the Foundation paid out commitments totaling $126,996,801. A significant number of these awards were made to organizations engaged in public-private partnerships that enrich all facets of life in southwestern Pennsylvania.”
