Artist Bios

Over the last few years, c_robo_ has established himself as one of the most distinctive artists working with Strudel, the web-based implementation of TidalCycles.
With pitch_black_system, he continues to expand a practice built around live coding, algorithmic composition and a highly individual approach to rhythm and structure.

As Strudel continues to mature, it is becoming an increasingly important platform for artists exploring code-based composition, offering new ways to rethink sequencing, variation and musical form beyond the constraints of conventional production workflows.

Technology alone, however, does not define the outcome. While Strudel provides an open and powerful environment for experimentation, it is Will’s musical intuition, experience and compositional sensibility that give these systems their identity. pitch_black_system stands as another compelling example of that balance between process and artistic vision.
As we continue to witness this remarkable wave of creativity, where code-based tools are reshaping the possibilities of composition, it is encouraging to see artists like c_robo_ bringing coherence, balance and a distinctive musical voice to this new way of making music.

Char Stiles is a computational artist, educator, and researcher. She works creatively in the lower levels of graphical computational systems & makes jokes about how computers work.

She was at the MIT Media Lab’s Future Sketches group researching the future of creative coding in performance. She is a part of the Livecode.nyc collective & she co-founded Hex House, an artist studio and event space in East Williamsburg.

She has performed internationally, including festivals such as Electric Forest, Portola, and Mutek Nexus. She has lectured and led workshops at Carnegie Mellon University, Duke University, University of Limerick, MIT, Cooper Union, The New School and NYU.
