The STUDIO is delighted to announce the release of “Maréorama Resurrected: An Illustrated Lecture” by media archeologist Erkki Huhtamo — our video documentation of Dr. Huhtamo’s poetic lecture-demonstration from the 2011 Art && Code 3D festival at CMU.

In this presentation, Dr. Erkki Huhtamo draws on his research into moving panoramas and dioramas to discuss various historical apparata that laid the groundwork for 20th and 21st century immersive applications. The particular focus of his presentation is the Maréorama, a huge multi-sensory spectacle created for the 1900 Univeral Exposition. Working from high-resolution scans and the original piano music, Huhtamo reconstructs several sequences from this simulated sea voyage on the Mediterranean.
