Futura Bold is an exhibition of works from the course Digital Worlds: Making and Performing in Digital Contexts. The artists in Futura Bold were given a prompt to make provocations about the future of digitally mediated life while investigating contemporary techno optimism and pessimism, science fiction and its impact on futures thinking, emerging disruptive technologies, accessibility and technology, environmental impacts of innovation, past utopian visions for technology of the future, and the politics embedded in the technologies we have now.

Though the works in the exhibition vary widely in subject matter (including urban planning, skin, DIY augmented reality hacking, networked intimacy, photosynthetic architecture, memorialization and death, spas,VR platforms for children, sex work, radiated plants and more), they manifest as hypotheses for futures grounded in research – which consider not only the technical dimension but also the political, environmental, social, and class implications of prospective technologies.

Artists include: Heather Cowie, Darrius Fletcher, Jarel Grant, Claire Hentschker, Faith Kaufman, Nat Kent, Michelle Ma, Adam Milner, Tom Ndiaye, Katie Rose Pipkin, Will Taylor

Facilitated by Angela Washko, Visiting Assistant Professor of Art
