Lumiverse

Evan Shimizu (2014)

Created by Evan Shimizu, Lumiverse is a software framework designed for managing and controlling lights in a theatrical or installation environment. It aims to provide programmers, designers, and artists with an intuitive interface for working with lighting devices while also giving them the ability to integrate lighting control into other programs with minimal effort. The framework is written in C++, with bindings currently available for Python and C#, and is available at GitHub (https://github.com/ebshimizu/Lumiverse).

Lumiverse was supported by a grant from the Frank-Ratchye Fund for Art @ the Frontier (FRFAF)— an endowment founded to encourage the creation of innovative artworks by the faculty, students and staff of Carnegie Mellon University. With this fund, the STUDIO seeks to develop a cache of groundbreaking projects created at CMU — works that can be described as “thinking at the edges” of the intersection of disciplines.

Evan Shimizu is a student in the Bachelor of Computer Science and Arts (BCSA) program at Carnegie Mellon University.
