Experimental Comics

Elizabeth (Lisa) Imas (2014)

Experimental Comics is a collection of formal experiments in unconventional comic book story-telling, developed by School of Art undergraduate, Elizabeth (Lisa) Imas. Imas developed three experimental comics: Monster Girl, presented through a sequence of lenticular prints; Hexaflexacomic, presented in an interactive, manipulable, flexible paper structure; and My Ghost and Me, presented through a sequence of double-sided transparencies. Imas has displayed her work in several comics/zine fairs.

Experimental Comics was created with support from Microgrant #2014-064 from the Frank-Ratchye Fund for Art @ the Frontier (FRFAF) — an endowment founded to encourage the creation of innovative artworks by the faculty, students and staff of Carnegie Mellon University. With this fund, the STUDIO seeks to develop a cache of groundbreaking projects created at CMU — works that can be described as “thinking at the edges” of the intersection of disciplines.
